A cast iron wall hook with a dog's head modeled in the round at the top, mounted on a scrolled backplate that ends in a double hook below. It was made to hang by an entry or in a hall to hold a coat, a hat, a leash, or keys. The dog is the whole point of it. Someone chose to turn a plain utility hook into a small sculpture, and the long-muzzled head has real character to it.

This piece is honest and used. I have washed it, so what remains on the surface is rust, not dirt. There is active orange surface rust and dark pitting across both the front and the back, heaviest on the reverse of the backplate as shown in the photos. The metal is solid and structurally sound. It stands and hangs as it should.

The most important thing to know is how it is built. The dog's head is a separate casting that is screwed onto the backplate, not cast in one piece with it. You can see the join and the seam in the close-up photos. It sits firmly. I am pointing it out so there are no surprises, since a two-part construction like this can read as a repair or a later marriage of parts, and I would rather you decide for yourself from the pictures.

There is no maker's mark, foundry stamp, or number anywhere I can find, which is why I am not putting a date or a country of manufacture on it. The scrollwork is worn soft in places from age and handling. The hooks themselves are intact with no breaks.
