A tall French tripod sellette in the Louis XVI taste, made to lift something beautiful to eye level. Three turned, fluted fruitwood legs rise from outswept saber feet to a circular apron mounted continuously in cast brass — acanthus scrollwork across the full circumference, broken at each leg joint by a square plaquette bearing a lion mask in relief. A pierced brass gallery frames the white marble top. At the base, a shaped triangular platform joins the three legs, edged in a brass swag-and-tassel mount and centered with a turned wooden finial.

The sellette was made for exactly this — a bust, a jardinière, a single object worth looking at properly. This 20th-century example carries the form faithfully, and the quality of the casting is better than most.

Condition

Good condition consistent with age and use. Fruitwood finish even with no losses. Brass mounts retain good detail with expected patina throughout; gallery intact. Marble top shows natural amber veining with no chips or cracks visible. The center finial shows a slightly different finish tone from the surrounding piece and may be a later replacement — structurally sound and reads well in place. Stand only; the brass planter shown in some photographs does not convey.
