Inside, Book Four of Blackie & Son's Britain and Her Neighbours series runs from the Norman Conquest to the Wars of the Roses, keeping an eye on the Continent with chapters on the Crusades, William Tell, and Joan of Arc. Every colour plate is present, from John H. F. Bacon's First Prince of Wales to Sir John Gilbert's morning at Agincourt, and a pictorial time chart closes the book. Undated, as many of these school editions were, and a handsome small volume for a history shelf.

The cloth shows rubbing along the edges and corners. The spine is sunned, meaning faded by light, but the lettering remains fully legible. The front free endpaper has uneven browning and some offsetting, which is a transfer of tone from the facing surface. The text block is evenly toned with age, and the binding is tight. All colour plates are present and bright, and the pictorial time chart at the back is intact. A blank white paper tag is loosely inserted. A good, sound copy overall.
