The line drawings are what sold me on this one. Hands working a chisel along the grain, a jack plane with every part labeled, the anatomy of a wood screw drawn out like a specimen. Mack M. Jones wrote Farm Shop Practice as a University of Missouri textbook for keeping a farm running without calling in a tradesman. It covers carpentry and tool sharpening, and also blacksmithing, concrete, and harness and rope work. Each chapter closes with study questions, so you can tell it once lived in a classroom. The advice still holds up, and the spine looks good on a workshop shelf, in a study, or in a farmhouse library.

The cloth boards are sound, with light rubbing and some dust soiling consistent with age. There is a small dark spot near the top edge of the front board. The spine label is intact and the gilt lettering is legible. The text block is tight and complete, with no loose pages. The pages are evenly toned throughout, and the text and illustrations are clean. There are no owner names, inscriptions, stamps, or markings. A good to very good copy overall.

Important Info About Antique & Vintage

Every antique and vintage item we carry has lived a life before arriving in your home. These are not factory-made products. They are objects with history, character, and the marks of time.

Age-appropriate wear, patina, minor imperfections, and signs of previous use or repair are inherent to antique and vintage items and are not considered defects. These characteristics are part of what makes each piece unique and are often what give it its beauty and value.

We describe the condition of each piece as accurately as possible in the listing. If you have specific questions about a piece before purchasing, please reach out. We are always happy to provide additional photos or details.

Colors may appear slightly different on screen due to monitor settings and photography lighting. We do our best to represent each item accurately.

Descriptions, dates, attributions, materials, and measurements are provided in good faith and reflect our best assessment based on research, physical examination, and the information available to us. Antique and vintage pieces often carry incomplete or unverifiable histories. Where a detail is an assessment rather than a confirmed fact, it is identified as such. Measurements are approximate.
