Vintage Christofle Silverplate Tray - Lancaster Paris Hotel
Vintage Christofle Silverplate Tray - Lancaster Paris Hotel

A Christofle silverplate service tray made for the Hôtel Lancaster, the Paris hotel that opened on the Rue de Berri in 1925. The underside carries the full Christofle métal argenté maker's mark, and the face is stamped Lancaster Paris Hotel, the kind of property stamp hotels used to mark service silver as their own. Christofle supplied the grand Paris hotels throughout the 20th century, and pieces like this came off the same workshop benches as their domestic silverplate. The shaped oval form has a stepped, gently gadrooned rim and a generous well.
The tray is structurally sound and sits flat. It shows honest wear from hotel service use, which is normal and expected for this kind of piece. There is fine surface scratching across the well, visible under direct light, along with some light haze and scattered spotting to the plate. The raised rim shows a few small handling dents and minor high-point wear where the plate has thinned slightly with polishing over the years. The Christofle mark on the underside is crisp and fully legible, as is the Lancaster Paris Hotel stamp on the face. No splits, no repairs, no plate loss down to the base metal. The wear reads as genuine provenance and does not detract from display or use.
