3.5" H x .5" d

A charming Victorian Scottish tartanware needle case in the McPherson clan tartan, crafted as both a practical sewing tool and a travel souvenir during the golden age of Highland tourism. This petite cylindrical case features a fitted cap and a sliding wooden inner holder designed to store hand sewing needles safely inside, perfect for a workbasket, chatelaine-style sewing kit, or a collector’s cabinet.

Tartanware became wildly popular in late 19th-century Scotland, when visitors wanted small, useful mementos that felt unmistakably Scottish. The “McPherson” name adds a wonderful layer of identity and collectibility, making this more personal than an unmarked plaid piece. Styled on a desk, tucked into a sewing vignette, or gifted to a needlework lover, it’s a small antique with a big story.

Includes: needle case and several antique needles (as shown).

Condition:

Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The tartan finish shows light surface scuffs and handling marks consistent with use and age, with minor rubbing to the lacquer in areas. The cap seats as intended and the inner wooden needle holder slides in and out. The included needles show age and light oxidation. “McPherson” lettering is present.
