A Victorian English giltwood display stand, the shallow rectangular form with a moulded gilt frame on four turned ball feet, the top surface covered in green felt. Stands of this type were made to present decorative objects on parlor tables and sideboards -- a glass-domed piece, a photograph album, a mantel clock, or an ornamental group -- elevating them off the surface and giving them a formal presentation. The gilded lacquer finish retains its warm honey tone with honest age wear. A practical and decorative piece that works equally well in its original role today.
The stand is in good antique condition with honest age wear throughout. The gilded lacquer frame retains its warm honey tone with expected wear at the corners and edges, including minor losses to the gilt surface consistent with a piece of this age. The four turned ball feet are intact. The green felt top surface is heavily worn and shows significant sun fading across its full extent, grading from a deeper green at the center to a paler yellow-green at the edges and in the most exposed areas. The underside shows dark-stained secondary wood typical of Victorian English construction, with traces of old adhesive residue from what appears to have been a paper label, now absent. The structure is sound.
