This 1875 Irish Sketch Book by William Makepeace Thackeray is a sharp, funny Victorian travel narrative based on his journey through Ireland in the 1840s. It’s full of Thackeray’s observations on towns, people, and everyday life, with engraved illustrations throughout that make it especially engaging to flip through. This copy is in a classic half leather binding with marbled boards, marbled endpapers, and a gilt-decorated spine that displays beautifully.
The half leather binding shows noticeable damage at the head of the spine, with loss at the top edge. Both hinges are very loose and the book should be handled with care, though the text block appears to remain together. The leather and boards show general rubbing and wear consistent with age and regular handling. The interior is in better condition than the exterior suggests: pages are generally clean throughout, with some scattered spotting and light foxing visible on the preliminary leaves. A sound copy structurally, though one that would benefit from a conservator's attention to the hinges before regular use.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
