A substantial, TASCHEN volume devoted to the rise and evolution of Impressionism, tracing how artists in late 19th-century France broke away from the academic Salon and began painting modern life with visible brushwork, shifting light, and atmospheric color. Edited by Ingo F. Walther, this book combines readable historical essays with bold, full-page color plates that make it feel more like a mini gallery than a standard reference book.
Covering the movement’s key ideas and major figures, it explores the world that shaped Impressionism, including Parisian exhibition culture, the changing pace of modern life, and the artists’ obsession with capturing the fleeting moment. It is the kind of art book that actually gets used, equal parts coffee-table statement and genuinely useful overview for collectors, designers, and anyone building a more intentional art library.
The boards are clean and solid with no warping or damage, and the binding is secure throughout. Pages are bright with no foxing, tanning, or markings noted. The dust jacket shows light surface wear and handling marks consistent with shelf storage, including minor scuffing, but it remains presentable and fully intact. Presents very well either shelved or styled open on a table.
