English Silverplate Gallery Tray by Ellis Henry Parkin, Sheffield, Circa 1910 to 1935. The gallery is the detail that earns a second look: vertical reeding interrupted by hand-chased swaged garlands in repousse, with a pierced upper register that gives the whole rim an open, architectural quality. The flat field is chased overall in a dense acanthus and scrolling foliate pattern, a surface treatment that Sheffield makers reserved for their better-quality work and that the base stamp confirms explicitly with the word "Chased." Made in Sheffield England by Ellis Henry Parkin, whose mark appears in three cartouches on the underside alongside a profile head device.

Condition

The tray is in good used condition with honest wear consistent with age and domestic use. The silver retains strong coverage across the gallery and the outer sidewall, with the reeded and repousse garland decoration crisp and fully intact. The flat chased field on the upper surface shows light scratching throughout and areas where the silver is wearing through to the base metal, visible as warm copper tones, most concentrated toward the center. This wear is typical for a piece of this age and does not obscure the chased decoration. The underside shows scratching and general service wear. The central foot pad is present but partially worn. No dents, no bent gallery sections, no losses to the pierced work.
