A painted urn does the quiet work in this still life. Wildflowers, a red poppy, and dry wheat rise from a dark vase banded with a gilt neoclassical figure, while a peach and a scatter of raspberries sit on a white marble ledge and a butterfly hovers at the upper left. It carries a signature on the ledge, lower right, that I have not been able to match to any recorded artist, so I am selling it as what it plainly is: a well-handled Continental still life in the Dutch tradition, honest about what is known and what is not.
The canvas has been relined, which has stabilized it against further age-related movement. The paint surface carries craquelure consistent with age and shows areas of overpainting disclosed by the seller, with some stable losses. The relining means the reverse of the original canvas, along with any labels or maker's marks it once carried, is no longer accessible. A small paper label on the stretcher reads "1892/17," which I read as a stock or inventory number rather than a date. The carved giltwood frame shows wear to the gilding and small losses to the ornament, in keeping with its age. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
Shipping & Returns
All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
Furniture is the exception. Because of size and weight, furniture shipping is quoted separately rather than calculated at checkout. Send a DM on Instagram or email austynmariedesign@gmail.com for a quote, or arrange your own shipping from the warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
