Sir Roy Strong's two-biography Chambers gift book pairs Queen Victoria's reign with that of William I, German Emperor, in a single decorative volume from the 1890s. The Queen Victoria section is anonymous in this Chambers issue, while the William I section is generally credited to Mary Cochrane, L.L.A. The blue cloth binding is the standout, stamped in gilt, black, green, orange, and yellow, with a Kirkcaldy Burgh School Board prize label dated 23 December 1898 inside. A handsome late Victorian prize binding with genuine human provenance.
