This Victorian illustrated history tells the story of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, the final attempt to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British throne. Written by Scottish historian and publisher Robert Chambers, it follows Bonnie Prince Charlie’s campaign from his landing in Scotland through the Highland march and the rebellion’s defeat at Culloden. It is a readable nineteenth century account of one of the most dramatic episodes in Scottish history.
This copy is a later Victorian New Edition published by W. & R. Chambers of Edinburgh and London. It features a brown cloth binding with gilt spine lettering, an illustrated front cover showing a Highland soldier, and engraved illustrations throughout the text. A strong piece for collectors of Scottish history, Jacobite material, and decorative Victorian bindings.
The Victorian cloth binding shows general wear consistent with age. There is noticeable rubbing and wear at the top and bottom of the spine, with some cloth loss at the spine ends. The boards show light surface wear overall. The binding remains structurally sound and the volume sits well. Interior pages are complete and secure, with light age toning and scattered foxing typical of a nineteenth century book. No writing, ownership marks, or bookplates are present. All illustrations are present and intact.
