This beautifully bound edition of The Poetical Works of Mrs. F. Hemans was published by Gall & Inglis, likely between the 1860s and 1890s, during the Victorian era. Felicia Hemans (1793–1835) was a celebrated Romantic poet whose works explored themes of domesticity, patriotism, heroism, and female experience. Her lyrical poetry resonated deeply with Victorian readers, especially women, for its sentimental tone and moral reflections. This edition includes a memoir of Hemans' life and steel engravings, a popular feature in Victorian books that combined visual and literary arts.
The boards show wear consistent with age, with some fraying or softening visible at the spine ends and corners. The gilt decoration and blue shield on the cover remain striking and largely intact.
