A late Victorian to Edwardian English photo frames cast in gilt brass in the Louis XV revival manner. Each frame is built around a substantial solid brass backplate, with pierced rococo scrollwork forming the border, foliate C-scrolls running down the sides, and a pierced floral crest at the top. A hinged brass strut on the reverse lets each frame stand on a tabletop. The casting is heavy and well detailed, and the gilt finish has darkened to a warm honest patina across both pieces. Pairs of period brass frames at this scale are noticeably less common than singles.
Both frames are in good honest antique condition with patina consistent with age. The gilt brass surfaces have darkened evenly across both pieces, with the warm aged tone collectors look for in period brass. The pierced rococo borders and floral crests are intact on both frames, with no losses to the scrollwork. There is minor bending visible along some of the pierced edges, but the frames are structurally sound and both stand correctly on their easel struts. The solid brass backplates show light scratches and surface marks consistent with long use. Both hinged easel struts are present and functional. The original backings are in place. Neither frame has glass; the buyer will need to have glass cut to fit the 4 inch by 5.5 inch aperture, which is a standard photo size easily handled at any frame shop.
