An 1889 Popular Edition of The Miscellaneous Writings and Speeches of Lord Macaulay, this volume collects essays, reviews, and speeches by one of Victorian Britain’s most prominent historians and political writers. Bound in full polished calf with a richly gilt spine, marbled endpapers, and marbled edges, it also carries a 1900 Sutton Coldfield Elementary School prize inscription that adds appealing period provenance. A handsome Victorian leather-bound volume for collectors of literary history, political writing, and decorative antique books.
The book is structurally intact but shows visible signs of age. The front hinge is cracked and partially split, though the board remains securely attached. The leather boards exhibit scratches, scuffs, and patches of discoloration, particularly to the front cover. Gilt detailing on the spine remains bright and attractive. The page edges retain their original marbled finish throughout. Interior pages are clean and legible with gentle age toning. A handsome Victorian binding with honest wear and a documented provenance through its prize inscription.
