I noticed this one because of the little six-pointed star stamped into the adjuster knob, with the letters B, G, O, L set around it. That, plus the patent stamp on the swivel joint, tells you it was made in France under a French patent. It is a working desk lamp built to be moved: the counterweight arm swings and holds its angle so you can pull the light exactly where you want it over a book or a desktop.

This lamp has honest age and wear, and it has been rewired and is in working order. The silvered surfaces are tarnished and worn throughout, with the plating rubbed and darkened in the recesses and at the high points. The underside of the base shows heavy oxidation and staining. The tole shade shows scuffing and paint loss around the rim with spotting to the green exterior, and there is rust to the interior of the shade. None of this stops the lamp from working or from reading well on a desk, but it is the surface of a piece that has been used, not restored.

AMD strongly recommends having the piece inspected and, if needed, rewired by a licensed electrician before use. It is sold as a decorative item and Austyn Marie Design is not responsible or liable for any malfunction, damage, or injury resulting from its use or electrical operation.
