The green metal shade slides up and down the center rod on a little wingnut adjuster, which is how the original candle versions kept the light even as the wax burned down. This is the classic three-light bouillotte form, the French card-table lamp everyone knows from traditional and English-country rooms, now wired and ready to use.
This is an honest, used decorative lamp and it shows its age mostly in the shade. The green painted shade has a fine crackle across the whole surface, which is normal for a painted tole shade of this kind and part of its look. There are scattered small paint chips, rubs, and scuffs in various areas, with the most noticeable wear along the lower rim where the paint has worn through and small spots of rust show at the edge. One area of the shade has a soft dent you can see in a raking light. The shade is missing one of its screws, and there is a small threaded hole on the side where a fitting once sat. The gilt trim lines at the top and bottom rims are worn but read clearly. The pale interior of the shade has scattered rust-colored spots and flecks across the surface, which is normal age spotting for a metal shade of this age. The ring finial at the top of the center rod is bent.
The brass-toned arms, turned column, and dished tray base carry a warm patina consistent with age and use, with faint verdigris flecks in the recesses of the tray. The three faux-candle sleeves over the sockets are worn and yellowed, with soft creasing and small dents to the bodies, and the molded drip detail intact. The lamp has been rewired with a new cord, plug, and inline on-off switch, and it works. The socket wiring under the base is joined with modern connectors.
AMD strongly recommends having the piece inspected and, if needed, rewired by a licensed electrician before use. It is sold as a decorative item and Austyn Marie Design is not responsible or liable for any malfunction, damage, or injury resulting from its use or electrical operation.
