A French ebonized oval display stand from the second half of the 19th century, originally the base for a crucifix or religious figure that has long since been separated from it. The underside carries a pencil inscription in a French hand reading "sans Christ," a dealer notation flagging the piece as the base only. The form is uncommon. Most religious bases are round or square, but this one is a long oval raised on four small bun feet, with the original red and black painted seat where the figure once stood. It works as a plinth for a small sculpture, a vessel, or a found object.
The stand is in honest antique condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. The ebonized finish shows light surface crackle and scattered scuffs, dings, and small losses consistent with more than a century of use. The original red and black painted seat where the religious figure was once mounted remains intact and visible. The underside shows several inactive worm holes, evidence of past activity that is no longer present. The wood has developed a gentle warp over time, which causes the piece to sit slightly uneven on a flat surface. It does not rock significantly, but it is not perfectly level. The bun feet are all present and securely attached. The pencil inscription on the underside is faint but legible. Structurally sound and stable for display.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
