A French bouillotte lamp in the Louis XVI style, the form named for an 18th-century French card game played by candlelight. Two scrolled brass arms rise from a round dished base, and a deep red painted tole shade slides up and down the central rod so the light can be lowered as needed. The shade carries hand-painted gilt scrollwork and a bird motif. The piece has been rewired and works on both lights, with twisted cloth cord and an inline switch. The brass shows warm, honest wear throughout.
The lamp is in good vintage condition and works on both lights. The brass shows warm patina and honest wear consistent with age, including darkening and light surface marks across the base and arms. The red tole shade is free of dents and holds its color well, with surface crazing and light paint wear to the gilt decoration that suit the age of the piece. The top opening of the shade has been covered with a grid of masking tape over a darkened backing disc. This is a later, makeshift cover and is not original. It is not visible in normal use with the shade in place, but a buyer may wish to replace it with a proper backing. The lamp has been rewired with twisted cloth cord, an inline switch, and a US plug, and lit reliably on both sockets during testing. The faux-candle sleeves over the arms show the molded wax-drip detail typical of these lamps, with light wear. No maker's mark or label was found on the base or inside the shade. Bulbs not included.
One thing for US buyers to know: the two sockets take E14 bulbs, the small European screw base, not the US candelabra size. The lamp ships with bulbs that fit. If you want to swap them later, look for E14 candle bulbs, or use simple E14-to-E12 adapters to run common US candelabra bulbs. The cord and plug are already US-ready.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
