A man in a red coat with a gun and his dogs sit in the grass in the foreground while St. David's College, Lampeter, spreads out below the Welsh hills behind them. This is a colored engraving after a drawing by Henry Gastineau, issued in his Wales Illustrated series around 1830, only a few years after the college opened in 1827. The whole scene is small, but sky, hills, dogs, and building all get their space.
The paper has toned to a soft brown yellow with age. I see no spotting or foxing anywhere on the sheet. The color looks even through the glass, and the engraved lines are clear. The mat is clean in the photographs.
The print has not been removed from its frame, so the paper edges, platemark, and any publisher's imprint are not visible, and the sheet is described as seen through the glass and mat. The frame is later than the print, with a hardboard back, paper tape, and staples. The black finish and gilt edge are in good order for age.
Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
