Antique Pressed Horn Snuff Box, England, Circa 1850

Antique pressed horn pocket snuff box, lacquered black with natural amber horn visible through the finish, the classic rectangular form with rounded corners and a full-width hinge. Both the lid and body are each pressed from a single piece of horn, which is the detail that distinguishes quality pressed horn work from cheaper composite or papier-mâché examples of the same period. No lining, no decoration beyond the material itself. English, circa 1840-1870.
Good antique condition with honest age-related wear throughout. The lacquered surface shows light surface scratching across the base and sides, consistent with long pocket use. The natural amber horn is visible through the black lacquer finish on the lid and upper surfaces where the finish has worn or thinned, which is characteristic of this material and period. There is a small chip at the back left corner of the body and a hairline crack in the material nearby, both minor. The hinge is functional and the lid opens and closes as intended, though the hinge is slightly more exposed at the back than original alignment would suggest, indicating a small shift in fit over time. The box is structurally sound.
