Christofle Argentina silverplate two-handled tray in the Art Deco style, made by Christofle's Argentine subsidiary in Buenos Aires in the 1930s or 1940s. The shaped rectangular form has stepped contour corners and a reeded edge molding, with cast reeded handles riveted to the body and four ball feet on the underside. Christofle established manufacturing in Argentina in the early 20th century to supply the South American market with the same patterns and quality standards as the Paris factory, and pieces carry the Christofle name stamped alongside ARGENTINA rather than the French Paris marks.

Condition

The tray is in good vintage condition with honest age-appropriate wear. The silverplate surface shows the expected light scratches and surface marks across the well from decades of use, visible under direct light but not distracting at normal viewing distance. Copper undertones are visible at the high-wear points along the rim edges, handle joins, and contour corners where the plating has thinned with polishing over the years. The four ball feet on the underside are all intact and stable. Both cast handles are firmly attached with no looseness at the rivets. The form is true with no dents, no warping, and no significant dings to the edge. The reeded edge molding is crisp and unblemished. The maker's marks on the underside are clear and legible. The tray displays beautifully and is fully usable for serving.
