A small, painterly life study of a reclining female nude, prone and absorbed in reading, oil on plywood panel with verso inscription "P. Jones." The figure is rendered with confident, economical brushwork against a warm dark ground, the flesh built up in ochres and siennas in a tradition that runs from Velázquez through the British academic schools of the early 20th century. Acquired from a fine art dealer in England, it sits in an ornate 19th-century carved gilt gesso frame with a natural linen liner that was clearly chosen for it at some point, and chosen well.
The painting surface is in good condition with surface dirt and no paint loss. The plywood panel is stable with no warping or delamination visible. The carved gilt gesso frame shows gilding losses and age-related wear throughout, with the characteristic warm red bole visible at the corners and rails where the gilding has rubbed. These losses are consistent with the frame's age and do not detract from its overall presence. The linen liner is intact.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
