Francis Bond’s The Cathedrals of England and Wales is a substantial early 20th-century architectural survey of some of Britain’s most important ecclesiastical buildings. Expanded from his earlier work on English cathedrals, it combines scholarly yet accessible text with over 200 photographic illustrations and carefully scaled ground plans, making it useful both as a reference and as a visually engaging study.
Published by B. T. Batsford in London, this copy is bound in dark blue cloth with bright gilt decoration and heraldic motifs. It reflects the strong early 20th-century interest in medieval architecture and Britain’s built heritage, and it remains an appealing volume for collectors of architecture, church history, and decorative antique books.
The binding is tight and well preserved, with only the lightest fraying at the head and foot of the spine. Corners show minor wear and the gilt stamping remains bright and fully legible. Internally the pages are clean overall with expected age toning and light foxing to the endpapers and preliminaries. No tears or markings beyond the gift inscription noted above. A solid and attractive copy with genuine shelf presence.
