A pair of Victorian black transferware butter pats, each decorated with a different engraved-style scene in the manner typical of mid-Victorian English transfer printing. One dish shows an armored knight on horseback in a rocky landscape with a castle in the distance; the other shows a woman in period dress with a small child at a doorway. The black banding on the rim is clean and graphic, and the scenes have the fine crosshatched quality of illustration work from the 1860s to 1880s. Unmarked on the bases. These work as salts, ring dishes, or a small styled vignette on a breakfast tray or bar cart.
