About This Piece

A pair of demilune galleried jardinieres, surviving curved end sections from a longer surtout de table once arranged across a Belle Époque dining table. Silverplate over gilt brass with original parcel-gilt highlighting on the laurel swags, marked C&L with quality numeral 8, indicating a German or Austrian manufactory circa 1895 to 1915. Each piece holds its own removable beveled crystal liner cut precisely to the curve. Sourced in Paris this season. They stand stable independently, which means they work as a pair flanking a centerpiece, joined into a semicircle, or separately on a console or vanity.

Condition

Both jardinieres present in very good antique condition with honest wear consistent with use over more than a century. The silverplate shows expected loss on the high points of the corner blocks and along the upper rims, exposing the warm gilt brass base metal beneath in small areas. This patina is original, has not been polished out, and is part of the appeal of the pieces. The parcel-gilt highlighting on the swags is original and intact.

All eight bun feet are present, original, and tight. No dents, no splits in the pierced gallery work, no missing decorative elements. The relief decoration is crisp throughout.

Both beveled crystal liners are present and removable. Each shows minor flea bites along the edges, normal for crystal of this age and not visible in display. No cracks, chips, or losses of consequence.

Maker's marks C&L and quality numeral 8 are present and legible on the undersides. Surface oxidation around the marks is original and undisturbed.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.

All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
