A late Victorian to Edwardian silverplate and cut glass jug made in the coopered barrel style, where the plated mounts imitate the riveted iron hoops of a wine or cider cask. Four strapped bands wrap the tapering glass body, each set with domed rivets, with a matching collar at the neck, a hinged lid, and a loop handle. The glass is cut in horizontal panels that echo the staves of a barrel, so the whole piece reads as a cooper's cask rendered in glass and silver. It carries a single stamped maker's device to the collar. English, circa 1890 to 1910.

Condition

The jug is in good antique condition with honest age-appropriate wear. The cut glass body is clear and bright, with the horizontal panel cutting crisp throughout. The silverplate mounts hold a warm tone with surface scratching and light rubbing to the high points of the strap bands and rivets, consistent with age and handling, and some darkening in the recesses. The hinged lid is present with its thumb-piece and the loop handle is firm. Please confirm on your end that the lid seats fully and that the glass is free of chips and cracks before publishing, as I have written this report from the photographs.
