Antique Signed Alpine Lake Landscape Oil Painting

An Alpine lake landscape in oil on a metal panel, with snow-capped peaks beyond still, reflective water and a jagged rocky spur dressed in conifers at right. Signed in the lower left in pale paint with a swash underline. It is presented in a molded gilt composition frame with acanthus and star-shaped flowers that read as edelweiss, a motif suited to the subject. The darks have developed a fine, leathery crackle with age.
Antique condition consistent with age. The painting is in good condition overall, with the wear expected of a work this old. The darks show a fine crackle, the varnish is glossy and aged, and the raised highlights are intact. I have not determined whether the varnish is original.
The frame has gilt wear, small cracks through the molded ornament, and a small chip at one corner. On the reverse the metal panel shows oxidation, scratching, and staining. There is a pencil inscription on the top rail that I cannot read. The wood fillet holding the panel looks lighter than the surrounding frame, so I can’t say whether the panel and frame have been together since the beginning.
