Antique Pair of Brass Candlesticks with Etched Marble Bases, Circa 1880
Antique Pair of Brass Candlesticks with Etched Marble Bases, Circa 1880
Couldn't load pickup availability
A pair of brass candlesticks on round marble bases, each edged with a twisted brass rope. The marble is banded in cream and honey and carries incised sprays of leaves and flowers, worn soft in places. The stems are turned with ringed knops, and a flat drip pan sits under each socket. I read them as likely French and haven't pinned it down further, though the rope trim and proportions fit the 1880s.
Antique condition consistent with age. The brass is non-magnetic with an even, aged patina and some tarnish, and no dents or splits are visible in the photographs. Both sockets hold residual wax and oxidation, so they will need a clean-out before use. The marble bases are intact with no chips or cracks, though one base has a small surface void. The incised floral decoration is worn and soft in places, more so on one base than the other, with warm staining in the engraved lines. The red fabric lining under each base is worn and matted. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
