This is a Regency sofa table, made to sit behind a sofa or float in a room and pull double duty as a writing and tea table. Both leaves drop to narrow the footprint, then lift on their brackets when you need the full length. The end-standard base rides on splayed sabre legs with cast brass lion-paw caps and rollers, so it moves easily across a room.
Sold as-is with photos governing. French-polished surface, refreshed at some point in its life, not original. The top shows expected age: scattered fine scratches, some ring and handling marks, and old shrinkage lines running the length of the top and across the leaf joints (visible in the raking light). Crossbanding and checkered stringing are intact around the top and on the foot panels, with minor lifting and small losses possible at the edges on close inspection. Both frieze drawers are hand-cut dovetailed with solid chamfered bottoms; one drawer retains its brass lock, no keys present, lock not tested. Brass lion-paw caps and rollers are present on all feet and appear period-appropriate; originality to the piece is not verified. Some old surface wear and darkening to the turned uprights and stretcher. Primary wood assessed as mahogany from color and figure; no end-grain or unfinished secondary surface was examined to confirm species.
