A large gilt picture frame in the Rococo Revival manner, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The ground is composition over wood, gilded in bright oil gilt. High-relief ornament covers all four corners with bold shell, acanthus, and scrolling foliate cartouches, with matching foliate boss centers on each rail. The profile is deeply coved, measuring three inches at its widest, giving the frame substantial visual presence on the wall. The sight size of 24 by 16 inches suits a portrait, still life, or oil landscape, and the frame is equally compelling fitted with a mirror.
The frame is in very good condition overall. The gilding presents consistently bright and warm across all four rails, corners, and ornamental elements, with no losses visible across the face. The composition ornament is intact throughout, with all corner cartouches and rail centers complete and undamaged. The gilding is even and shows no patchy wear or worn-through areas on the face. Some honest age-appropriate surface wear is present on the profile edges and the inner lip, consistent with use. The back shows exposed wood, which is normal and expected. The hanging wire is present. Structurally sound.
