Something stops you in this one before the fruit does: the langoustine split open on the pewter plate, its shell catching the only warm light in an otherwise deep brown field. Around it the painter piled a full pronk table, a footed glass tazza and a wicker basket spilling grapes, peaches, apples and a melon, a roemer and a tall flute behind, a cut lemon and a clay pipe at the front edge. It is painted in the 17th century Dutch manner, the ostentatious still life the Antwerp and Dutch masters built their reputations on, and it carries a signature in red at the lower right that I have not been able to match to a documented hand. Oil on board, in an ornate gilt composition frame.
The painting presents well overall, with a warm dark palette and the fruit and langoustine reading clearly against the deep brown ground. There is a spot of white paint or fill visible on the upper edge of the composition, noted here so it is not a surprise in hand. The surface shows light age. I have not cleaned or revarnished it, and I am not making a claim about earlier restoration either way, since that is not something I can determine from the surface alone.
The frame is an ornate gilt composition frame with acanthus and scroll corners. It shows scattered rubbing to the high points and small composition losses along the edges, with a visible loss on one side rail. The gilt remains bright and the frame reads well from across a room. The hanging hardware and backing brackets are recent additions and are not original to the piece.

Shipping & Returns
All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
Furniture is the exception. Because of size and weight, furniture shipping is quoted separately rather than calculated at checkout. Send a DM on Instagram or email austynmariedesign@gmail.com for a quote, or arrange your own shipping from the warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
