Along a quiet stretch of river, a turreted château catches the last warm light while a woman in a red-trimmed bonnet makes her way down the bank and a lone figure rests near the water. Signed Th. Linsyer at lower left, a name that recurs across a body of French Barbizon-tradition landscapes of exactly this character. The handling is loose and atmospheric, the palette autumnal, the impasto lively in the foliage and the broken reflections on the water. The gilt-and-composition frame is period to the work and carries its age openly.
The painting presents well overall with a warm, atmospheric surface. There is a tear in the upper left corner of the canvas. A vertical scuff runs through the sky at upper right, and there is a small paint loss with associated cracking in the sky at left of center. The surface carries a layer of dirt and light grime consistent with age and would benefit from a professional cleaning. Scattered minor surface wear is visible under raking light. The canvas is on its keyed wooden stretcher. I have not disturbed the reverse and am describing the support only as it presents.
The frame is a period gilt and composition frame, original in character to the work. It has several losses to the ornate composition ornament along the outer edge, corners, and gilt slip, visible in the photographs. These are shown honestly and are part of the piece as it comes.
A note on the artist: the signature reads Th. Linsyer, a name that appears on a consistent group of French landscapes worked in the Barbizon tradition and offered at auction and through the trade. Biographical records for the painter are limited, and I would rather tell you that plainly than repeat the birthplace and dates that occasionally get attached to the name without a source behind them. What can be said with confidence is that the hand is French, the tradition is Barbizon naturalism, and the signature is consistent with the documented body of work sold under this name.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
