Made in France around 1880, this semainier follows the old lingerie chest tradition of one slim drawer for each day of the week. The drawer fronts are laid in book-matched parquetry with fine crossbanded borders, and a polychrome marble top in honey, rose, and charcoal finishes the piece with a softly beveled edge. Tall and narrow, it settles easily into a dressing room, a hallway, or a quiet corner of a bedroom.

All seven drawers operate smoothly on their original wooden runners and remain ready for daily use. The drawers are hand-cut dovetailed, with an old assembly number penciled inside and a brass repair plate bridging a stable split in one drawer bottom, consistent with genuine 19th-century construction and honest working repair. The oak linings carry a warm, dry patina.

The parquetry veneer is largely stable but not flawless. There is veneer lifting and minor loss along the top front edge, small chips and losses to the crossbanded borders between several drawers, and an older veneer repair on the lower right drawer front that blends into the surrounding pattern. These are visible in the photos. The surface has been French polished at some point and carries later wax over that; it is not the original finish.

The marble top shows light surface scratches and two small chips along the rear bevel, visible in the photos. The hardware is mixed: most drawers keep turned brass ring pulls and rosette knobs, while a few carry period-appropriate replacements with slight variation in design and finish. Locks are present on the drawers; not all have been tested and no key is included.

Wood species on the drawer fronts is assessed as a rosewood-family veneer, most likely kingwood or tulipwood, based on grain and color; it is not walnut. The carcass and linings are oak. Dating is a construction-based estimate from the hand-cut joinery and secondary woods, with no maker's mark present. Sold as-is; the photos govern.
