Antique French Flower Oil Painting Still Life in Cream Vase *AS-IS*

There is a quiet tension in this one. The vase is painted with real confidence, its pale baluster form modeled cleanly against a deep oxblood ground, while the flowers above it, orange zinnias, small blue and white blossoms, a stray pink bloom on a bent stem, are handled more loosely, the way a working study often is. Oil on canvas, French, late nineteenth century, in a substantial gilt gesso frame. The reverse carries a faint pencil inscription in French and a keyed, hand tacked stretcher that dates the work.
The canvas is on its keyed stretcher with the tacking edges present. There is a tear in the canvas in the upper right, within the painted flower group to the right of the vase, roughly 2 inches long, with associated paint lifting and a small area of exposed ground at the tear. There are additional punctures to the canvas in the lower left corner and at the right. The paint surface shows scattered small spots of paint loss, including near the base of the vase, and a light overall grime consistent with age. The tear has not been stabilized or repaired. I have not had the work examined under laboratory conditions, so I am describing only what is visible and what I can see in hand.
The frame is a gilt gesso on wood molding with a foliate outer course and an egg and dart inner course. It has composition losses at several corners where the white gesso substrate is exposed, along with smaller chips along the edges. The frame reads as original to the period of the work.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
