A small English golf novelty from the height of the Edwardian golf boom. William Comyns modelled the silver mount as a pair of crossed clubs bridging a turned horn bowl, the whipping on the grips picked out in detail. The hallmarks read cleanly and date it to London 1901.

Cast and applied silver mount modelled as two crossed golf clubs with picked-out grip whipping, set over a hand turned horn bowl. The two clubs sit at slightly different heights, which reads as hand-modelled rather than machine-cast

Turned horn bowl, dark

Very good condition for its age. The hallmarks are crisp and read cleanly under a loupe, which is the most important attribute on a hallmarked silver piece and the strongest evidence that the original surface is intact. The silver mount is secure to the horn bowl. Honest age tarnish throughout the silver, uneven as expected on a piece that has not been recently polished. A few small handling dings to the rim edge of the mount, most visible along one side, consistent with being set on hard surfaces over more than a century. The two crossed clubs are securely mounted and sit at slightly different heights, which is original and reads as hand-modelled work rather than a fault. The turned horn bowl is sound, with fine surface scratches on the underside from being set down over the years and a soft matte finish rather than a high polish. No cracks or splits noted to the horn. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
