A late Victorian/Edwardian English oak smoker's cabinet in quartersawn tiger oak, with figured oak veneer to the door interiors and original nickel "Secure Lever" hardware. The fitted interior is the reason to look closely. A central drawer with pierced brass rococo-revival handle sits between open compartments, with a small hinged drop-front section above and a pair of original pipe rack mounting brackets to the right compartment, where pipes would have hung from the upper bracket and rested in the lower one. The pipes are long gone but the original mounts are intact. The left door retains its working lock with original key. The right door lock has been removed, so the cabinet no longer latches closed on its own.

Condition

Good antique condition with honest wear consistent with age. Strong medullary ray figure across the doors and case sides, original finish intact, warm patina throughout.

The left door retains its original "Secure Lever" lock, which functions correctly with the original key. The right door lock has been removed at some point, leaving an empty mortise in the door's inner edge. The shield-form escutcheon remains in place as a decorative element. Because of this, the cabinet does not latch closed on its own. A small period lock could be fitted by a furniture restorer, or a concealed magnetic catch added.

The lower inner corner of the right door has a small chip where edge veneer has been lost. Cosmetic only.

All other hardware is original: both escutcheons, both nickel thumb-turn pulls, the brass interior drawer handle, the brass hinges, and the original pipe rack mounting brackets in the right compartment. The pipes that originally hung from these brackets are not present.

The back panel shows a small gap between two boards from seasonal wood movement. Cosmetic only, the case is sound. The underside shows remnants of an old paper label and surface wear from a century of use. The exterior shows light scratches consistent with age. No other damage, no repairs.
