A hand-painted oil on board showing a Dutch cathedral town with a busy market square. Two churches stand side by side, a tall Gothic bell tower on the left and a broad Romanesque church with twin towers and green copper roofs on the right. Across the open square a horse and carriage waits, a cart is loaded with barrels, and figures in top hats cross the ground between rows of tall gabled houses. The scene matches the Vrijthof in Maastricht, Netherlands, where the Sint Servaas basilica and the tower of Sint Jan sit together on the city's largest square. The painting is set in an ornate gilt frame with molded flower, grape, and scroll corners.
The painting is in good, stable, hanging-ready condition. The board is sound and the paint surface is intact with no flaking or active losses. There is light surface grime and a soft, even yellowing to the varnish that is normal for a piece of this age and can be cleaned by a conservator if a buyer wants it brighter. Under close light you can see fine age lines in the sky area, which is typical and does not affect the image.
The frame shows honest age wear. There are small chips and losses to the molded gilt decoration at the corners and along the edges, and a few spots where the gold finish has rubbed to show the base underneath. One corner has a small separation at the mitre joint. None of this affects how the frame holds the painting or how it reads on a wall, and the wear is consistent with a frame of this period. The back of the board shows age darkening and old hanging hardware is in place.
Attribution note: The location is identified from the architecture. The pairing of a tall Gothic bell tower beside a broad Romanesque church with twin towers, seen across a large open market square, matches the Sint Servaas basilica and the adjacent Sint Jan tower on the Vrijthof in Maastricht. The painting is unsigned and no maker is identified. The date range is based on the style, the board construction, and the frame type, all consistent with the early 20th century.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
