Antique Oil Painting Brussels Park Garden Scene

It shows a formal park with a triple triumphal arcade rising through the haze at the end of the allée, a large domed palace to the right, urns and statuary along the lawns, and a few figures resting in folding park chairs beneath a great bare tree. That combination, a triple arcade closing a formal allée with an intact domed palace beside it, together with the Belgian names inscribed on the stretcher, points to the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels rather than Paris. It is signed lower right, incised into the wet paint, by a hand I have not been able to document.
The painting is in honest antique condition, shown openly in the photographs. There are two small tears in the canvas in the upper sky area, along with scattered paint loss and flaking through the pathway and lower foreground, and craquelure across the surface consistent with age. The canvas remains unlined on its original keyed wooden stretcher, with surface grime and light scattered specking throughout. The signature at lower right is incised into the paint and is difficult to read. The frame is a period gilt gesso compound frame with wear and losses to the ornament, most visibly at the corners. I have not cleaned, relined, or restored the piece, so a buyer is free to conserve it or leave it in its found state.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
