An exquisite piece of 19th-century tableware, this silver-plated caviar or butter dish was crafted by the Wilcox Silver Plate Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, and is marked with a patent date of December 7, 1880. A testament to Victorian elegance and American craftsmanship, it features a highly detailed floral band around the lid and an etched inner dish depicting birds and lush foliage.
This rare dish includes its original glass insert, confirming its use for serving delicate items such as caviar, butter, or preserves. The twin side handles offer graceful symmetry while the domed lid with ornate finial provides both beauty and practicality. A pierced warming stand beneath allows for heat or ice to be placed underneath, depending on the intended contents.
