Stories of Robin Hood and His Merry Outlaws, retold by J. Walker McSpadden in lively prose drawn from the old Sherwood ballads. This 1931 Harrap edition has strong shelf appeal, with green cloth boards decorated in elaborate gilt floral ornament and a contrasting brown leather-grained spine with gilt panels and lettering. McSpadden moves through the familiar cycle, Robin's outlawing, Little John, Friar Tuck, Allan-a-Dale, Maid Marian, Guy of Gisborne, and the book is illustrated throughout with black-and-white plates and in-text images. A handsome decorative copy for collectors of Robin Hood, classic juvenile literature, and early 20th-century gift bindings.
The binding is secure and shows handling wear consistent with age. The green cloth boards remain attractive, with bright gilt floral decoration to the front cover and general wear to the surface. The spine shows heavier rubbing and surface abrasion, with wear at the head, foot, and corners and some light loss and scuffing. Pages are age-toned with scattered foxing and spots throughout. No loose pages noted. A solid, decoratively appealing copy.
