1914 Trevelyan Garibaldi's Defence of the Roman Republic 1848-9

Trevelyan's account of Garibaldi's 1849 defense of the Roman Republic and the celebrated retreat across central Italy, presented here in a Wellington College prize binding from 1914. The full brown leather is framed in gilt with the college crest stamped at center, the spine carries elaborate gilt compartments and a contrasting title label, and the text block is finished with marbled endpapers and edges. Illustrated throughout with seven folding maps, all present, including a detailed plan of Rome in 1849 printed by Emery Walker.
The full leather binding is secure and structurally sound, with no looseness, cracking, or splitting at the joints. Boards show general age-related surface wear and rubbing with some discoloration consistent with handling, and the gilt decoration remains clear and attractive. The spine is intact with strong gilt detail.
The text block is clean with no staining or odor. Light scattered foxing is present, typical for the period and not intrusive. All illustrations and folding maps are present and intact, with no loose or missing pages. The Wellington College prize presentation bookplate remains intact.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
