A Victorian school prize binding with real presence, awarded in 1895 and still carrying its original character. This later Routledge edition of Scott's accessible retelling of Scottish history is dressed in full green leather, richly tooled in gilt with marbled endpapers and edges. The frontispiece, "Queen Mary's Death Warrant," ties directly into one of the most dramatic episodes Scott covers. Inside the front pastedown is the printed prize label from Moulton Grammar School, dated Midsummer 1895, awarded for progress in form work.
