A richly bound Victorian copy of The Life and Epistles of St. Paul, published in London in 1883, with a beautifully gilt-decorated spine, gilt ruled covers, marbled endpapers, and marbled page edges. This was one of the best-known 19th-century studies of the Apostle Paul, written to place his life and letters within the real geography, politics, and travel routes of the ancient Roman world. Books like this appealed to Victorian readers who wanted scripture grounded in history, place, and archaeology, and the foldout map and engraved illustrations were a major part of that experience.

This copy has especially strong visual appeal. The full leather binding gives it the look collectors want on a shelf, while the Hurley Grammar School prize label adds period provenance that suits the book’s scholarly and religious subject perfectly. It is an excellent piece for collectors of theology, biblical history, Victorian leather bindings, or antique books with strong decorative presence.

The binding shows rubbing, scuffing, and general wear consistent with age and handling. The foldout Plan of Rome is present but loose or fully detached from its original placement. Marbled endpapers and marbled page edges remain attractive throughout, and the gilt decoration to the spine and covers retains good brightness. A solid, displayable copy with honest age to it.
