A compact 1840 Portuguese Catholic prayer book in full leather, titled Relicario Angelico de Jesu Christo e de Maria Santissima, printed in Lisbon by Typographia Rollandiana. This is a devotional manual centered on Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the mysteries of the rosary, made for private prayer and daily religious use. The engraved frontispiece, marbled endpapers, and richly gilt covers give it strong visual appeal, especially for collectors drawn to small continental devotional books.
This copy has the kind of presence that works well both as a personal religious antique and as a shelf piece. The Lisbon imprint, pocket format, and ornate leather binding make it appealing to buyers interested in Catholic history, Portuguese printing, and nineteenth century miniature-style books with decorative bindings.
The full leather binding shows honest wear consistent with nearly two centuries of use and age: rubbing to the edges, corners, and spine, and visible cracking down the hinge area as shown in the photographs. Both hinges are looser than they would have been originally, though the volume still holds together. The gilt decoration on the boards and spine remains legible and present. Marbled endpapers are intact. The text block shows normal age toning throughout, which is expected for a paper of this period and in no way detracts from readability. No inscriptions, writing, or ownership marks noted. No plates beyond the frontispiece.
