Personally sourced and imported from Paris
A classic piece of French café and bar history, this porcelain pyrogène was made to do two jobs at once: hold matches and provide a strike surface for lighting them at the table. It’s boldly lettered “CHATEAUNEUF DIJON” and wrapped with French advertising for Grands Vins de Bourgogne, Cassis, and Liqueurs & Spirits, the exact style of promotional tabletop piece once found in bistros and wine-forward cafés.
The shape is wonderfully sculptural, with a mini goblet-style match cup rising from a wide base and finished with gilt banding and a concentric blue ring field on the top of the base. Today it’s perfect for a bar cart, open shelving, a French advertising collection, or as a conversation-starting accent in a kitchen vignette.
