A finely crafted English wax seal stamp dating to the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, made with a solid brass base and a beautifully modeled greyhound head in silver plate. The sculptural quality of the dog’s head reflects the era’s fascination with graceful sporting breeds that symbolized loyalty, refinement and aristocratic leisure. The base carries an engraved monogram that appears to read C with either O or D inside, a style of hand-cut lettering often used in personal desk accessories from this time.
This seal would have belonged to a gentleman or lady who used it to close letters with wax, making it both a functional object and a small expression of personal identity. The mixed metal construction and the weight of the cast head are consistent with high-quality desk pieces produced between 1890 and 1910. It displays beautifully on a writing desk or bookshelf and adds an elegant sense of history to any space.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition with age-appropriate wear to the silver-plated head and light patina to the brass base. The engraved monogram remains crisp and well defined. The connection between the head and the base is original and secure, and there are no repairs or structural issues. The seal stamp face shows minor surface wear from normal use. Cleaned lightly for presentation.
