This is a miniature Victorian devotional book titled The Psalms of David by Isaac Watts, printed in London in 1830 in a “Diamond Edition,” a format known for its tiny, tightly set type. Watts was one of the most influential English hymn writers, and his Psalm paraphrases were widely used for worship and private devotion throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
This copy is especially appealing because it’s not just small, it’s genuinely handsome: deep red leather binding with crisp gilt borders, a richly tooled spine, and bright gilt page edges that still catch the light. Inside, it includes an engraved portrait frontispiece of Watts, plus a period owner inscription dated 1853, which adds a little human history without overwhelming the book.
