The mahogany has aged to a deep color with good figure visible across the top and drawer fronts. The top shows light surface scratches and wear consistent with use over the past century and a half. All four original turned wood knobs are present and intact, and all four drawers slide and function, though the upper right short drawer pulls with slightly more resistance than the others. The original paper or canvas covering on the back panel is heavily worn with significant losses, exposing the wood beneath. The two back boards have separated at the horizontal seam, leaving a visible gap that is the result of natural wood shrinkage over time rather than structural damage. The case structure is sound throughout.
